An 81-year-old female patient with a history of infected periprosthetic fracture and multiple unsuccessful previous fixations was treated using custom-made titanium implants. The bone defect was extensive due to multiple fractures, making reconstruction without a custom implant impossible. Due to the infection, a two-stage revision surgery was performed successfully (cement placement for infection control followed by prosthesis implantation for defect reconstruction). After three years, the patient is fortunately in a satisfactory condition.
Pre-operative simulation and planning
After obtaining radiographic and CT images and planning according to the physician’s treatment plan, a custom cone for the patient was designed to reconstruct the bone defect.
