Tibial Nonunion with Mesh Cage in a 36-Year-Old Patient

A 36-year-old man with the history of tibia’s bone fracture. During the surgery the fracture controlled with cement and ilizarov external fixator.

Surgical Treatment

At first the cement was removed and then the prepared grafts were located on the defect’s site, densely kept together using 10 cm mesh cage. At the end ilizarov used.

Physician’s Conclusion

Patients with nonunion in bone’s shaft are suitable to use mesh cage implant in order to keep bone grafts in the defect’s site. This implant does not play significant role in weight bearing and other fixators such as ilizarov , plate or nail must be used for weight bearing.
